All events and outcomes planned for the project, entitled “Lithuania-Japan Architectural Event EAST-EAST 4” in Kaunas , are designed and move around the idea that multi-cultural, multi-lingual understanding and idea-sharing and knowledge-building is among those core features needed for responsible and ethical living in an increasingly globalized, technologically empowering and enhancing, but also very rapidly changing and thus very uncertain world.

As this project is strongly focused on idea and cultural exchanges, it is planned that 10 students of architecture and 10 professionals will take part in this project from the each participating side.

The main idea of this project is to:
• Organize a three-day Workshop where students from Japan and Lithuania form working groups and work jointly on a task to re-design Waterfront area of Kaunas city (the second biggest city of Lithuania with about 300,000 inhabitants). For this project, Kaunas is chosen as an exceptional city, built on the confluence of the two largest rivers of Lithuania, yet, at the same time, using very little of its authentic geo-territorial context in the city’s urban life; Centralizing the waterfront, therefore, appears to be among the core architectural tasks planned as practical assignment for the working groups of this project;
• Organize a public presentation and Exhibition of all designs proposed in the Workshop; Publish an East-East Event and Workshop Catalogue with all designs;
• Organize an Joint exhibition of designs of participating architects in event from Japan and Lithuania;
• Organize Public Lectures of well-known architects from Lithuania and Japan; It is expected that 10 architects will come from Japan to Kaunas for this occasion.
