The ARCHITECTURE [discussion] FUND LECTURES

Series of International public lectures (5) of visiting architects dedicated to the theme „Historical City Centers and their Waterfronts“ aiming at the analysis, needs assessment, knowledge-building, and experience sharing on issues such as contemporary questions in planning of waterfronts.

Topic – WATER

The biggest towns and civilisations were built near seas, rivers or large lakes. In such cities water is an inevititable element.  However, if a city is not a port or a city on the water, what role does the water play in the city's structure? In this time of technologies there is a question – how important is water to the city inhabitants? What's the relation  of the city resident with the water? If you asked architects whether water is necessary to  the resident, the answer would be positive, but is water needed in the resident's everyday activities? How does a relation change when living near the water and on the water (e.g. on floating habitable barges?) If we looked at the subject from a synergetic point of view - does water require a city, and its residents? Does a relation exist between a city and water? Doesn't water become like an obstacle, which needs to be overcome? This cycle is imposed to discuss water influence, significance and utilisation in a city.

The ARCHITECTURE [discussion] FUND is a continuous project, whose credo are inspiring talks with exclusive companions, is designed to develop a humane, sensitive, reasoning and insightful personality. Each discussion cycle has a different tutor duet, who analyses one relevant subject during the cycle. At least 10 volunteers help them organise public lectures.

There have been eight conversation cycles in the last three years:  ('2010 = 1990 + 20 YEARS OF INDEPENDENT ARCHITECTURE' ,'MODERNISM.LT: INFLUENCE, IDEOLOGIES, HERITAGE'. ,'SHOW OFF: THE ARCHITECTURE ON DISPLAY, 'EDUCATION', 'THE CITY'. 'BREAKPOINTS`, 'PROCESS', 'MODERN HERITAGE', 'PLACE. ANTROPOLOGY OF SPACE'

GOALS OF THE ARCHITECTURE [discussion] FUND:
1. Analyse relevant topics; encourage interdisciplinary reasoning;
2.Stimulate public interest in architecture and education;
3. Cultivate a culture of discussions;
4. Gather a society of architects by joining different generations, areas, and schools.
